The Senate Must Pass the Expanded Child Tax Credit Bill
The bipartisan tax package that passed the House of Representatives in January, the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act of 2024 (H.R.7024), would improve the Child Tax Credit (CTC) for about 80% of families with lower incomes who do not qualify for the full tax credit. This tax credit would lift half a million or more children out of poverty and help support an additional 16 million children of parents who earn lower incomes. Economic security is a critical factor in seeking safety after leaving an abusive relationship and seeking a new future. The CTC can provide tangible support to survivors’ families, offering them a pathway to security and independence.
This expansion of the CTC is the best opportunity to address child poverty and secure support for low-income families, the majority of whom come from disadvantaged communities.
The Senate must take action today and pass the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act of 2024.
