Financial insecurity is the number one barrier to safety for survivors of intimate partner violence, impacting 99% of all survivors. Stalking, harassment, and abuse can prevent survivors from keeping their jobs or may force a survivor to leave their job - making it difficult to provide for themselves and their children. Survivors need Congress to pass workplace solutions for survivors that make it easier to keep their jobs under protection and increase financial security.
On Wednesday, June 21st, the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions will mark up three bills that support survivors’ economic security – the Healthy Families Act (S. 1664), the Paycheck Fairness Act (S. 728), and the Protect the Right to Organize Act (S. 567). We must provide all survivors access to protected paid sick and safe days, equal pay, and restore the right to form unions freely and justly in their place of employment.
